Hello!
And wishing you all the best in 2023!
Well, Barnaby The Baby is now six weeks old and between a resumed new-mama role of 'industrial udder', putting the kettle back in the fridge, nocturnal confusions over my new baby looking decidedly like Matt Hancock (I think it's just the hairline) - while figuring how the fudge to mum three small humans - I've been musing what to write for this musing.
And the upshot is, inspirational words for the coming year just ain't flowin' yet and, given that in addition to the above I've been calling the local pigeons “penguins” to my bemused six and 10 year old (or was it the other way around? I blamed the cold…), I thought I'd instead share the words of others: those way wiser, holier and probably better slept than me.
I don't know about you but quotes, I find, are a godsend. Short enough for my little mind to hold, carry around and remember-ish - yet often so profound they bloom within me like warm sunshine, lighting up my life from the inside out, or pow motivation into my heart with the full throttle of an 80's power ballad, or simply remind me it's ok to not be ok. I love that in just one fell saying they can change the compass of my mood and navigate me back on track or onto a new path.
So, here's a little January sprinkle of the quotes I have and will lean on as the last year ended and the new one begins: *
Relevant for all things “good” and “bad”, I find.
* * *
It really, really is… who needs a new handbag / house / car or flipping FOMO when the ACTUAL STARS IN THE SKY are actually YOURS AND MINE! And for some reason it leads me to want to “dance like no one's watching”.
* * *
These words from psychologist and holocaust survivor Victor Frankl blew me away when I first read 'Man's Search for Meaning' - they've stayed with me, and strengthened me, ever since.
* * *
Can you find any example of when this wasn't true? Allow it to percolate as this one goes deep.
* * *
This one lives on a curly-cornered pink post-it above the kettle, it brings me back daily (even when the kettle is in the fridge and my brain is on the floor).
* * *
A newbie of the quote-rolodex in my mind and I love it!
* * *
* Quotes I shall elaborate on further, once I've stopped confusing local pig-uins for my children.
Love as always,
Jo x
