What to do? What a relief!

Are you looking for a solution? Look no further...

musings

Good morning from Penang!

It’s been a while… 🙂

And it’s been quite a journey!

And I’m so glad to have finally found a little laptop-window to muse here in Malaysia.

Jo

I wanted to share a little mindfulness tool I’ve been using since just before we left London and it’s been helping me no end.

So... you know that thing where you’re spinning in circles needing a solution? That feeling that to gain peace you need to figure out whatever-it-is predicament? You just.need.to.decide... But you can’t decide, so the Don’t Know What To Do mind gets to work with pro’s and con’s lists, solving synapses, regurgitates, ruminates, flagellates...

Perhaps you do finally come to a decision this way... but it doesn’t feel “quite right”, you’re still not sure, you keep mulling and discussing; often you’ll look back and feel maybe you could’ve spun it another way and so we humans go...

And it’s because in the West we are taught the solution is there, we must just use our thinking brain to find it, once we find it we will gain relief. But personally this doesn’t always work for me. I can find myself fast-tracking to the regurgitatey ruminatery bit pretty quick. Before long I’m sticking my head in the sand or procrastinating or beating myself up over my inability to decide or act wholeheartedly.

But what if we come at “problems” a different way?

What if we seek relief not solution? Let our instincts rise?

And trust that if no decision comes quickly it’s because, right now, there is no clear path.

That by gaining relief the solution will come.

If you want to give it a go, try this:

  1. Notice the discomfort of seeking a solution
  2. Stop seeking a solution
  3. Seek relief instead (for me this is taking time out by having a change of scene, doing something I enjoy, getting out of my head, watching a movie, seeing a friend...)
  4. Trust

Happy Monday 🙂

Love, Jo x
